EAST MEETS WEST IN CREATIVE COLLABORATION
The Arts and Humanities Research Board (AHRB) has established a partnership
with the Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation to provide joint funding for two
Fellowships in the Creative and Performing Arts.
The AHRB Fellowships in the Creative and Performing Arts Scheme allows
higher education institutions to appoint researchers in practice-based arts
for a period of up to three years. The scheme aims to support the
development of individual researchers and promote research-based art in
universities and colleges. The first Fellowships were announced by the AHRB
last October, when thirty Fellows - their fields ranging from art and
design, to music, drama and dance - were appointed.
"One of the Board's strategic priorities concerns partnerships and
collaboration between individuals, subject areas, institutions and funding
bodies, whether public or private", explained Professor Paul Langford, Chief
Executive of the AHRB. "Our partnership with the Daiwa Anglo-Japanese
Foundation illustrates our commitment to working co-operatively in order to
maximise the
benefit of AHRB funding and in achieving the objectives set out in our
mission
statement. The Foundation is a highly respected body which has an
established relationship with a number of higher education institutions and
we are delighted to be working in collaboration with them."
The Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation aims to strengthen UK interest in the
promotion of links with Japan, particularly in a cultural and academic
setting. The Foundation will co-fund up to two of the AHRB Fellowship
awards, which will support practice-based research within or into the
Japanese creative and performing arts, provided that candidates of
sufficient quality present themselves.
The deadline for applications for the awards is 31 August 2000. Further
details can be found on the AHRB web site http://www.ahrb.ac.uk , or contact
Alison Henry for further details by email at [log in to unmask] or telephone
0117 931 7417.
