The Journal of Visual Art Practice (JVAP) is a new refereed journal
publishing scholarly research and informed commentary on various aspects
of visual art practice seen from a broadly educational perspective. It
welcomes contributions from art educators, scholars, art practitioners and
others concerned with contemporary art practice seen from such a
perspective. The journal will seek to represent the full spectrum of
intellectual positions and modes of educational practice that are oriented
by, or have developed out of, the traditional notions of fine art
practice, or in reaction to them.
JVAP is especially committed to the development of interpretative
approaches to current visual art practices which focus their activity in
the terms of larger educational, social and intellectual contexts and
concerns; and to the analysis and discussion of those professional issues
particular to visual art education and research. It will incorporate
Drawing Fire, which is currently the house journal of the National
Association for Fine Art Education (UK).
Following a period in which both social and intellectual reconstruction
has in many respects reconfigured both visual art education and the world
for which it prepares students, the journal will seek to adopt a position
of critical solicitude to all aspects of the expanded visual art field,
and to the educational practices associated with it. Consequently, it will
not restrict its remit to any specialist discipline, orientation,
methodology or hierarchy of practice within the field of visual art. The
journal will publish both scholarly papers and more speculative pieces
designed to further understanding and debate.
