Jonathan
So glad you keep us all thinking! I used to work at the London Institute
(where Chris Dyer is also) there is widespread use of learning contracts or
agreements there. Some of them are module or unit based e.g. at the London
College of Fashion and some were particular to a whole course approach -
Chelsea College of Art and Design used 'statements' (sometimes called
critical statements) with Fine Art BA and MA where the nature of the
agreement was more propositional and could be revisited in the light of the
student learning and development. In both cases students see no difficulty
with them if part of the ethos of a course, in other words not as an add on
or partially substantiated.
If you are going to the GLAD conference (1st & 2nd Nov at MMU) then a lot of
these people (and others) will be there - and I'm sure will be willing to
share examples.
Anyone out there thought of doing some research into this area? I would be
interested to know.
Linda
