Greetings from a new members at the newly-formed Merseyside Disability
Federation.
We were established in March - in the first instance by five large local
voluntary groups - with a National Lottery Charities Board grant. Our task
is to help other "front-line" voluntary groups that are helping people with
disabilities in Merseyside: to help them with background research and
statistics, information on funding, strategic developments that might affect
them, capacity-building and sharing best practice.
I'm a geography and planning graduate with a past career in social/economic
research in planning departments and a local TEC, but I'm new to the
specific area of disability. My first job as Research Officer is to build up
a physical or virtual library of statistics, resaerch and useful contacts,
as well as trying to set up a database of potential local customers of our
services (of whom there are currently over 350 in Merseyside ... as far as
we can tell)
