Can anyone out there .. reccomend any buildings or "built environment"
sites to see, relating to "Universal Design", in the San Francisco Bay
Area?
I have suddenly scheduled a trip out there (it's 3,000 miles away, for
me)... and would like to take advantage of this opportunity to study &
take color slides of any architectural "Good Examples"....
.....(or even "Bad Examples"... if they're built after the ADA -
1990)....
.......to add to the slide-collection I'm building, to be used in
teaching Universal Design to architectural students.
The areas I willl be able to get to, to look at buildings, parks, etc.,
----will be:
The City of San Francisco, the whole "Bay Area" (Berkeley, Oakland....),
and, the whole area on the route between SF and the State capital of
Sacramento.
I have not been to SF in 25 years... and have no idea of what to look at
in terms of Universal Design. Of course I will look at Mario Botta's
new SF Museum of Modern Art building....
and the BART, Bay Area rapid Transit System, (which I hear IS
accessible, due to the pre-design lobbying efforts of a single PWD, who
wanted to use it to get to work).
Any suggestions on what "built environment" sites to look at, in
relation to accessibility issues?
