Hello to everyone from Julienne Hanson.
I'm the PI on an EPSRC EQUAL research grant to profile the housing stock
for older people. The profile is based on first-hand research in 120
residential settings from 6 locations in 2 regions of the country. The
study areas are: in the north-west, the Fylde, Blackburn and Trafford; and
in the south-east, Breckland, Bracknell and Harringey. The objectives are
first, to build a broad regional population study and a picture of the
housing stock in each area based on the English House Condition Survey's
stereotypes and second, to derive and test new descriptors of housing that
will characterise the range of housing and domicilliary care options that
are currently available for older people in each of the six localities.
Obviously, accessibilty is a key variable for the research. The validity of
the profile will be further tested by a detailed ethnography of 60 older
people who are considering a move to change their current residential and
care regime.
I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who is looking at the problems
with access and mobility which older people experience in their own homes.
I am currently looking for a part-time RA on the project working two days a
week on house condition survey and access so if you know someone, London
based, who is looking for a part-time research post please let me know.
Best wishes to all,
Julienne
