ARCHITECTSyesterday called for the Government to
give them a formal role in deciding planning
applications for new buildings.
Presidentof Royal Institute of British Architects Marco
Goldschmied said present planning laws were
“arcane” and allowed people with “no knowledge of
good design” to submit applications for new
buildings.
He said architects could help developers create a
“design-led holistic culture of community-based,
integrated, environ-mentally-viable buildings”.
He added, “The Royal Institute of British Architects will
be launching a campaign in the autumn for a
fundamental overhaul of the UK’s planning
system.”
In new proposals published yesterday the institute
called for a change in planning guidance “to
encourage the use of architects in the design
process”.
