We routinely use Sarstedt tubes in Liverpool for zinc
analysis and haven't encountered any problems with sample
contamination.
According to the textbooks, zinc
concentration is higher in serum than in plasma due to
release from platelets during the clotting process.
However, when we compared zinc concentrations in 120 paired
serum and plasma samples, the results were not
significantly different (paired t-test):
Serum Mean 10.0 umol/L, sd 1.4 umol/L
Plasma Mean 10.2 umol/L, sd 1.4 umol/L
