Smooth muscle antibodies are usually specific for actin, and are associated
with autoimmune chronic active hepatitis(type I), though a diagnosis cannot
be made simply on this result. These antibodies are also present in a
proportion of the normal population, and may also be present in viral
infections, SLE, RA, and Sjorgren's.
