Greetings,
This is a regular point of discussion isn't it, almost worthy of its own
list - anyone for LIS-GRUMBLE?
More seriously perhaps is the matter of what do you actually want from
your job? Everyone would presumably vote for more money and that is only
to be expected. There are however other issues to take into account such
as job security, working environment, job satisfaction, people saying
"Thank you", etc. All these are rather woolly and not so easy to
quantify as the pounds going into the bank at the end of the month but
can add considerably to the package. I suspect that this might be a view
which finds favour amongst those of us who have been a little longer in
the profession.
Anybody who becomes a Librarian (or even an Information Scientist) for
the money is going to be sadly disillusioned and has possibly been very
badly advised. This doesn't mean that we shouldn't push for better
salaries in all sectors, but there will never be the same level of
reward for all professions no matter what we might think.
Regards,
Tim
