1. Flyer for Ullmann's Encyclopedia of Industrial Chemistry
-----------------------------------------------------------
A flyer for Ullmann's Encyclopedia of Industrial Chemistry (produced by
Wiley) is now available from the Ullmann's page at
http://www.chest.ac.uk/datasets/ullmann/. This gives information about
the product. Full details about the Agreement are also available at
this URL.
2. Information about the ISI Linkage Service
--------------------------------------------
MIMAS and ISI have confirmed that active links have been established
with:
Academic Press, American Institute of Physics, American Physical
Society, Blackwell Science, Karger, Kluwer, Academic Press, Elsevier
ScienceDirect, Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics, Springer
Verlag and a small number of titles are available from Catchword.
Agreements have also been signed covering:
Royal Society of Chemistry, Highwire titles: Science, PNAS & Annual
Reviews (other Highwire to follow) and the Catchword title list will be
expanded.
Also for your information, it has been decided in consultation between
CHEST, ISI and MIMAS, that the first year fee for the Linkage Service
should be reduced in recognition of the delay in this Service being
available. Therefore any Site that has started or intends to start
their subscription between now and 31st August 2000 will pay a reduced
fee of £250 (plus VAT).
Sites will then be invoiced for the first full year subscription
from 1st September 2000 to August 2001 at the advertised rate of £1000
(plus VAT) on September 1st 2000.
Invoices will be sent out shortly to those Sites which MIMAS has
confirmed now have access. Other Sites will be invoiced on receipt of
confirmation from MIMAS to CHEST about the start of the service.
The Addendum form to add the Linkage Service to your Licence can be
located at:
http://www.chest.ac.uk/datasets/isi-wos/
Two original forms should be authorised and returned to CHEST at the
normal postal address.
Please email [log in to unmask] if you have any queries or wish
to check the status of your subscription to this service.
3. To sites that are licensed for the CHEST/Clover Agreement
------------------------------------------------------------
CHEST would be grateful if you could please take a few moments to
provide some information about your subscription to the Clover Indexes.
We need to start discussions with Clover about a possible renewal of
this Agreement and therefore your feedback would be appreciated.
Comments are welcomed by all sites, regardless of whether you are tied
in for the three full years or whether you commit on an annual basis.
Please can you let us know:
1. How valuable is the Clover service to your Institution? It would
also be useful
if you could please recap which option you have chosen.
2. Are you interested in an extension to the current three year
agreement which ends on 30th September 2001? Please list reasons for
your decision whether the answer to this question is yes or no.
Any other comments you would like to make about this service are also
welcome.
Many thanks for your time and feedback. Please send all comments to

4. INSPEC - Service Provider changes (Reminder)
----------------------------------------------
Licensed institutions are reminded that they are entitled to choose
another service provider with effect from 1st September 2000
provided that they have given the necessary three months notice (1st
June 2000) to their exisiting service provider, proposed service
provider and CHEST.
5. Community of Science (COS)
----------------------------
CHEST is currently talking to Community of Science (COS) about a
possible Agreement for some of the services it provides. The nature of
COS and its services are very different to the standard types of Data
Agreements that we have previously offered and CHEST is therefore
seeking expressions of interest in the services they provide.
The following information has been taken from product literature
provided by COS.
Community of Science is a technology driven publisher of Web-based
information products and services designed specifically to support and
advance the scientific and scholarly research community. It helps
researchers and research Institutions find funding, publicise ther
expertise and identify potential collaborators.
Services include:
COS Expertise, COS Funding Opportunities, bibliographic databases,
Patents and US Government publications.
COS Expertise is the cornerstone of COS services. It is a database
which holds first-person profiles, online CVs, of researchers at
Universities and other Institutions involved in basic or applied
research. Any researcher can mount a profile (to date there is a
global network of over 350,000 Scientists and Scholars).
This service is free to Universities to facilitate collaboration and is
accessed for a fee by subscribing R&D driven sponsors, Government
Agenices and Corporations who use it to identify the expertise they
need for particular initiatives.
COS Funding Opportunities is available to Universities via
subscription or as part of membership of COS (see information below).
It is the largest source of funding information (grant opportunities)
and is updated daily with between three to six hundred new or renewed
opportunities appearing weekly.
In addition to this service, COS Funding Alert provides weekly updates
about relevant grant information that is new or updated in COS Funding
Opportunities. These alerts are available from a personal Web account
and can be emailed to you automatically each week.
COS Membership includes building and maintaining an Expertise database
for an Institution, access to COS Funding Opportunities, COS Funding
Alert, Administrator's Workbench, US Patents database, training and
support. Membership is subsidised by Corporate Subscribers and
Institutions do not pay the full costs of building and maintaining its
Expertise database. However it is a requirement that COS has the help
of a nominated contact at the Institution in order to assist with the
building of this database as it is timeconsuming.
Further information about these services can be located at:
http://www.cos.com
Expressions of interest should be addressed to Emma Thompson
[log in to unmask] with the subject line COS
6. Location and Use Permissions
-------------------------------
CHEST is in the process of mounting location and use permissions for
each agreement. These can be found under each overview at:
http://www.chest.ac.uk/datasets/AGREEMENT_NAME/
at the clickable link "Location and Use Permissions"
Further pages will be added over the coming weeks.
