Dear colleagues
I am currently involved in planning discussions for a new, small to
begin with) site library.
As usual we are reluctant to re-invent the wheel and it was suggested
that I contact the list for advice, comments, suggestions.
I would be grateful for any of the above from colleagues who have had
experience in this field, particularly with regard to:
1 Staffing levels and grades - there will be a range of resources
available, traditional print materials and access to the on-line
databases and the Internet. This will require a multi-skilled staff.
What level of staffing and grades are needed?
2. How will students register with the college? - it is unlikely that
there will be registry staff on-site.
3. We are anticipating that some services will not be set up in time -
what impact is this likely to have on the main site library? i.e. Did
you resource the new library with material from the main site and if so
how?
4. The initial set up will be relatively very small in terms of student
numbers - we do not envisage that many of the support mechanisms
that our students are used to will be in place. What impact is this
likely to have on library staff on duty at the new site?
Please reply to me and I will summarise for the list.
