Press release from
Department of Information and Library Studies
University of Wales, Aberystwyth
May 2000
Further JISC funding for the University of Wales,
Aberystwyth Department of Information and Library Studies
and the Centre for Information Quality Management
The Department of Information and Library Studies (DILS)
of The University of Wales, Aberystwyth and Information
Automation Limited's Centre for Information Quality
Management (CIQM) are pleased to announce the award by
JISC of funding under its Committee for Awareness,
Liaison and Training Programme 1999/2000 (JISC Circular
4/99).
The Department of Information and Library Studies and the
Centre for Information Quality Management are studying
Higher Education Institutions' Web sites to determine why
some have shown a particularly high rise in network use
in recent years while others have not.
The HEINUS (Higher Education Institutions Network Usage
Study) project will examine a small number of high-use
Web sites as well as a similar number with lower use and
explore the management models that lie behind them.
Institutional visits will be supplemented by an
examination of the Web site's structure and design. To
complement this management-oriented study a small user
survey will examine a larger number of Web sites to
determine whether the user view of good practice
corresponds to particular management models and is allied
to those sites which show high usage.
The award is for £39,475 and the project will last for 6
months from May 2000.
