Netskills Workshop:
Getting to Grips with FrontPage 2000

Microsoft FrontPage 2000 offers a range of powerful tools for both web
site creation and content management. These enable both new and
existing web developers to produce sophisticated and professional
looking pages easily and quickly.
This is a practical workshop for those who are users of the World Wide
Web and would like to use a web publishing tool to create their own web
pages and manage their web site. Whether they have already started
authoring on the web or not they will be able produce a high quality
site without the need for programming skills.
Workshop Content:
The workshop will comprise presentations, demonstrations and
hands-on sessions with opportunities for questions and discussion.
Participants will each receive a workbook which contains workshop
exercises, presentation slides and other relevant materials.
Topics covered will include:
* Getting started with FrontPage 2000
* Creating and editing web pages including: formatting text, adding
hyperlinks and images and working with tables
* Conversion of other Microsoft Office documents to produce web pages
* Manipulation of page properties such as colours, backgrounds and
metadata
* Advanced and interactive elements such as forms, active buttons and
image maps
* Web site management with FrontPage 2000 using different "views" to
organise the site structure including: link checking and dynamic
site updating, use of themes and templates and global editing and
spell checking
* FrontPage 2000 and web standards
* Server issues, server extensions and other FrontPage 2000 specific
features
By the end of the workshop participants will have:
* written a number of web pages
* included images and hyperlinks in their web pages
* included a range of more advanced elements in their web pages
including forms
* created a basic web site
* used the site management functions in FrontPage 2000 to check and
update links, apply themes and create navigation bars
* had the opportunity to create and convert web pages using other
Microsoft Office documents
* had the opportunity to create animated GIF images using Microsoft
GIF Animator
* explored FrontPage 2000 specific issues including HTML standards and
server extensions
Workshop Requirements:
Participants need no special technical skills; however, basic computer
skills such as using a mouse and keyboard are essential. In addition,
experience in using Microsoft Windows to open and save files and open
and close applications (e.g. a word processor) would be helpful.
Participants are expected to have seen the World Wide Web and used a
Web browser such as Netscape or Internet Explorer.
The cost of the workshop is £ 105 for participants from higher and
further education. Other participants should contact Netskills for the
relevant fees.
Note: Costs include lunch, morning coffee and afternoon tea.
