CHEST is pleased to announce the availability of H W Wilson's Art Index

dates are the same for both.

Pricing for Art Index Retrospective is 6,600 pounds plus VAT for the
three-year agreement, payable either as a lump sum or in annual payments
(6,200 pounds plus VAT if a lump sum payment is made before February
2001). Licensed Sites will receive a CD-ROM on request which can be used
in perpetuity. If the agreement is not renewed, EDINA may continue to
provide online access to subscribing sites.

FREE 30-day institution-wide trials and subscriptions are now available
via [log in to unmask]; see
http://edina.ac.uk/art-index-retro/subscribe.html

Further information about the Agreement may be found at
http://www.chest.ac.uk/datasets/art-index-retro/

2. INSPEC - Service Provider changes (Reminder)
-----------------------------------------------
Licensed institutions are reminded that they are entitled to choose
another service provider with effect from 1st September 2000
provided that they have given the necessary three months notice (1st
June 2000) to their exisiting service provider, proposed service
provider and CHEST.

3. CHEST/Chadwyck-Healey Agreement
----------------------------------
The CHEST Agreement for English Poetry, Palmer's Index to The Times and
PCI comes to an end on 31st March 2000. Institutions licensed under
this Agreement for English Poetry and/or Palmer's Index to The Times
have perpetual CD-ROM access, with the possibility of access via EDINA
for Palmer's.

4. Extension of PCI Service at EDINA
------------------------------------
CHEST has just received the following announcement from the JISC
Collections Manager:

We are very pleased to announce that Chadwyck Healey (now Bell & Howell)
and the JISC have successfully negotiated terms by which the PCI Service
can be extended until 30 June 2000. This offer is open to all
institutions who currently subscribe to PCI through the CHEST agreement,
and is intended to allow
institutions more time to transition current users. There will be no
charge to subscribing institutions for this extension.

A formal proposal for access to the new product PCI Full Text (and to
Know UK) will be discussed and formally decided by JISC committees in
the upcoming 6 weeks. These formal proposals follow JISC Circular 03/00
(see
http://www.jisc.ac.uk/pub00/c03_00.html for more information) and
responses received from the circular (posted to the e-collections and
lis-jibs-all lists earlier this month).

If you have any questions or would like any additional information,
please contact Alicia Wise (JISC Collections Manager) at
[log in to unmask]

5. Types of User Access for CHEST Agreements
--------------------------------------------
An item about user access to CHEST Agreements was issued in Data
Messenger No 148. This, together with additional information on use of
Products has now been put on the CHEST web pages at
http://www.chest.ac.uk/user-access.html (which can be reached from the
'Agreement Information' button on the CHEST home page.

6. MATHDI (Mathematical Didactics Database)
------------------------------------------
CHEST has been approached by FIZ Karlsruhe as they would like to
offer another Mathematical product to the Educational Community,
either as an addition to the existing CHEST/FIZ Karlsruhe Agreement
for Zentralblatt MATH, or as a product in its own right.

CHEST would therefore like to ascertain the level of interest in
access to the database MATHDI (Mathematical Didactics Database) via
the Internet or CD-ROM and subscription to the print product ZDM
(Zentralblatt fur Didaktik der Mathematik, International Reviews on
Mathematical Education).

The following descriptions have been taken from related product
brochures.

"Zentralblatt fur Didaktik der Mathematik, ZDM", is an information
service and abstract journal in the fields of mathematical
education and computer science education from pre-school level to
university teaching, encompassing elementary mathematics and
computer science.

Each issue of ZDM contains both an articles section and a
documentation section. The articles section provides in-depth book
reviews, analyses, and information. The most important section of
ZDM is the documentation section with bibliographic information and
abstracts summarizing the contents of the literature published
worldwide.

The documentation section of ZDM is the only abstract journal and
information service that offers worldwide coverage of the relevant
literature on the didactics of mathematics (mathematics education).

MATHDI is the name for the electronic version of ZDM. It is
produced, designed and offered by FIZ Karlsruhe. MATHDI provides
the quickest and most convenient access to literature in mathematics
edication and computer science education. It contains all
literature reviewed in ZDM since 1976 totalling 83,000 entries."

For more information and a demo of the MATHDI Database go to
the URL:

http://www.Fiz-karlsruhe.de/

Click on "Products", then "Databases produced by FIZ Karlsruhe" and
the final link "MATHDI".

Expressions of interest should be addressed to Emma Thompson
[log in to unmask] with the subject line of MATHDI.
