Hi Renate,
BINT is an Arabic word, brought into English via horse-racing connections,
meaning 'daughter' or
'girl' In horse-racing, it means 'daughter of..', or 'out of...', etc..
Apparently, most Arabic words in the English language were introduced via
horse-racing usage.
BUT - in Scotland, at least, it is NOT a word you should use to call
someone, especially a woman. It is highly
derogatory. I'll not start a discussion on feminism and use of words with
female connotations as insults... just warn your customer to be careful whom
they call a bint :)
Cheers,
Catriona
