Here at Reading University Library we are expanding our collection of
loanable CD-ROM material. As I understand it under present licensing laws
as an educational institution we can lend out material for private study
despite what individual licence agreements may state.
However, in our School of Education we have an ever increasing number of
students taking this material into schools to use on their teaching
practice. As this is part of their study it could be deemed acceptable
under those terms and we have decided to shorten loan periods to 7 days to
discourage students leaving items in schools or allowing other teachers to
use them. However, I am interested in how other institutions with Schools
of Education tackle this problem.
Do you loan CD-ROMs and if so what is the usual loan period?
Do you place any warning on the items such as that the item is only for
their personal use, may not be networked etc?
Please send replies directly to me and I shall summarize for the list.
Thanks
