A student teacher has asked for a suitable picture book or
junior fiction to help a bright 7 year old girl who has
never known her absent father; the story needs
to instil a sense of worth and self esteem.
In vain I have searched our catalogue and shelves, and
picture book and children's fiction indexes and source
books. There seem to be plenty of stories which deal
with insecurity, loneliness and bereavement within families,
and with fathers who eventually return to their family or
don't pay enough attention to their children, but I can
find nothing for the child who is dealing with feelings of
inadequacy because she has never known her absent father.
I would be most grateful for any suggestions. Also, is
there a national collection of children's fiction which can
be borrowed from.
Thank you for any help.
Paul.
