The Royal Geographical Society (with The Institute of British Geographers)
is the Learned Society representing Geography and Geographers. With a
national and international reputation, the Society has a membership of over
12,500 which includes the majority of UK Geographers engaged in research.
The Society supports research, education and training, and the wider public
understanding and enjoyment of Geography. The Society currently organises
over 150 lectures and conferences each year including a major 4-day
residential conference. It currently has three major overseas field research
programmes, and its specialist unit, the Expedition Advisory Centre, is
devoted to field training for younger field scientists. The Society's
information resources include its library, map and photographic Collections.
It also publishes three scholarly journals, three newsletters and a popular
magazine. The Society is based in a listed building in its own grounds in
Kensington opposite Hyde Park, and operates 8 regional branches in the UK
and one overseas. There is a permanent full-time staff of 42, together with
part-time, temporary and volunteer staff.
We are looking for someone to provide maternity cover for the Database and
Membership Administrator from mid April in either a full or part time
position. The post is based in Kensington. The appointment will be made pro
rata in the salary range of £17 500 - £20 000 p.a. according to experience.
Subsidised lunches are available on site, and there is a season ticket loan
scheme.
Responsible to the Head of Finance and Services, your duties will include
the overall management of the Society's contact and membership database as
well as general membership and event administration.
The Society maintains its database using the DOS ALMS package. The
successful candidate must therefore have experience of working with DOS ALMS
and general membership administration.
