Home and Away: flexible approaches to the challenges of distributed
learning
UC&R (Scottish Section) One-Day Meeting, Wednesday 1st March 2000 at
Glasgow Caledonian University
Distance learners, flexible learners and lifelong learners are an
increasingly important part of Higher Education these days. As
lifestyles change and learners demand access to education on their
terms, higher education institutions have to refocus their service
away from Monday to Friday provision on campus to catering for
students who cannot, or will not, attend in the traditional manner. In
order to respond to these challenges a number of strategies have
evolved: federations of HE providers have evolved (the UHI); new
"remote" campuses have been established (Crichton) and electronic and
networking solutions have created virtual campuses (RGU).
Find out what is going on in Scotland by attending this UC&R event.
Speakers from the UHI (Veronica Adamson), Glasgow University's
Crichton Campus (Avril Goodwin) and the Robert Gordon University (Ian
Heywood) will talk about the specific initiatives in which they are
involved. John Crawford (Glasgow Caledonian) will look at some of the
relevant issues coming out of the wider access agenda and Dan
Bye(Sheffield Hallam) will discuss some of the practical issues for
the information profession arising from distance learning initiatives.
Cost of the day will be £45 (inc. VAT). The Section's AGM will
take place over lunchtime. Cost of the day includes tea/coffee and
lunch.
If you wish to attend the meeting please contact Diane Devine by 25th
February at the latest on email: [log in to unmask] stating an invoice
address.
