The following temporary post has arisen because of the National Library
of Scotland's
commitment to provide scanned images for a collaborative RSLP project to
digitise
early maps : "Charting the Nation: preserving and widening access to
maps of Scotland 1590-1740, and associated archives". The successful
applicant will undertake general Map Library duties to replace existing
staff who will be involved in the digitising programme.
NATIONAL LIBRARY OF SCOTLAND
TEMPORARY MAP ASSISTANT (£8,602 a year pro rata)
Scotland’s premier library is looking to appoint a temporary Map
Assistant for a period from 3 April to 30 September 2000. The
successful candidate will help to provide services to users in a busy
Map Library and will also assist with a range of background tasks,
including processing new acquisitions, fetching and replacing maps,
listing and indexing and clerical support.
Applicants must possess at least four Standard grades, or equivalent
qualification, including English. The post would suit someone intending
to apply to library school and looking for work experience, or a newly
qualified librarian interested in a new field of library work. An
interest in maps, knowledge of the history and geography of
Scotland and some familiarity with a foreign language would be useful.
