This message has gone to all main partners in the Mapping Asia
project, but is now distributed for information and in case there is
anyone else who would like to contribute collection descriptions.r
MAPPING ASIA SURVEY
*******************
Dear Colleague,
The Mapping Asia Survey is now available from our web
site at the following address:
http://www.soas.ac.uk/asiamap/survey/survey.html
Links from this survey homepage lead to the survey
forms and all guidance documents.
BEFORE YOU START
****************
We recommend that you read the main Guidance
document,
available as a Word document from
http://www.soas.ac.uk/asiamap/survey/guidance.doc
This is a 17 page Word document so you may wish to
print this out and read it in the traditional way!
We would like each library to provide at least two
records - one parent entry (Library Record) to
describe the library and an overall view of its Asian
Studies material, and one (or more)child entries
(Collection records) to describe the Asian Studies
collection(s)within the library in more detail.
In larger institutions the parent record may be
completed by our chief contact who will then gather
various collection level records from the relevant
specialist staff member in charge of specific
collections.
***The deadline for submission is 17th April 2001***
SENDING US YOUR RECORDS
***********************
We would prefer that data be sent to us via the Web
forms, where possible.
You will need a username and password as follows:
Username: Oxford
Password: gnidnal
The HTML forms ARE available for viewing and printing,
but the Submit and Editing facilities will not be
active until January.
However, the preparation and collating of data based
on our guidelines can be done in advance, without this
capability in the first instance.
If you wish to submit records early OR you have no
access to the Web, please use the Word templates to
submit records.
If you have requested a paper copy of the survey, this
will be posted to you early next week.
HELP-LINE
*********
Help line numbers will be available from January 2001
to assist with any queries.
Oxford 01865 287111
and London 020 7898 4796 (until 2nd February
only)
Follow up interviews with libraries will also be
conducted by the Project Officers if required. Please
contact the Project Officers if you require any
further information.
THANK YOU
*********
We believe the success of this survey will be crucial
in determining the future of library resources for
Asian studies in the UK. It only remains therefore
for me to thank you and your colleagues once again on
behalf of the whole Project Team for participating in
it with us.
Very Best wishes,
Susan J
