While I agree that there are many sides to every story, and that in this
case this may be merely one of them, I don't see the harm in someone
putting it forward for consideration. Those who disagree, or wish to put
forward other aspects are also free to respond. Isn't that what discussion
is? While it might be nice if everyone were fully informed to all aspects
of a given topic, we can't exactly hand out reading lists before the
discussion begins. So isn't the best thing for people to present their
views, offer, as you have done, references to places where more of the
story can be found, and then get on with discussing (or, for those who
aren't interested, deleting) the topic?
I too think this should be the place to discuss issues relating to our
profession, the work we do and the conditions we and our colleagues work
under, along with issues associated with information provision etc.
However, why is it that whenever a post pops up that actually handles an
"issue" rather than a request for information, help, or a video recording,
someone poses the question - is this the place for it? Where is the place
for it? Must every interest group go and start a separate list, as
happened not so long ago? That would tend to render discussions rather one
sided I would have thought.
I'm sure we can agree to disagree on some things, and we all have the
liberty to ignore posts that don't interest us. (as I do with the countless
video requests - I can't help, but they don't offend me by simply popping
up in my inbox)
