I'm an assistant in the Bibliographics Department in one of the Medical
Libraries at King's College London. We have a number of withdrawn
medical books which we need to dispose of. Rather than simply throwing
them away, we are trying to find someone that would be prepared to
accept them. I'd be grateful if any other medical libraries out there
could give me details of their procedures for dealing with withdrawn
medical titles. Here are a few questions to give you some idea of the
info I'm looking for:
Is there a company that you regularly give withdrawn books to? Do you
have a contact address/phone number?
What kinds of books do you give? Are there any medical books that they
won't accept (eg. books on Drug Information)?
Does the company collect the books, or do you deliver?
How often do they collect/do you deliver?
Is there any monetary charge involved?
Do you sell any withdrawn medical books to students?
Is there any criteria for deciding which books are suitable to be sold?
How do you calculate charges for the books?
Any information that you can give will be a great help.
Thanks very much.
