I would be interested in sharing experiences with any colleagues who run
training programmes for research students and/or academic staff.
I would be particularly interested if anyone has developed a popular
programme for academic staff in collaboration with central staff development
or has a formal involvement in staff induction.
For interest, at DMU I run what is now a one-day workshop on literature
searching as part of the university's Research Training Programme, which is
compulsory. We have students from all faculties attending the same training
programme, which can cause some difficulties, but with team teaching and
plenty of one-to-one support in practicals it works all the same. We run
the training several times a year, so group size is fairly small.
I am happy to summarise for the list if required or share more information
about what we do here.
