Birmingham Library School 50th Anniversary
September 2001 marks the 50th Anniversary of Birmingham Library School.
Nowadays known as the School of Information Studies at the University of
Central England, it has also been known as the School (later Department) of
Librarianship and the School of Information & Library Studies. Its parent
institutions were the City of Birmingham College of Commerce and Birmingham
Polytechnic before the inauguration of UCE in 1992.
The School is planning a celebration of its Golden Jubilee in September
2001 (probably 18th) and would like to hear from any former staff and
students who would like to attend. The nature and venue of the event have
yet to be decided ? such decisions depend largely on numbers.
Anyone who would like to be kept informed of the plans as they unfold is
invited to contact Brian (Tim) Hall at the School of Information Studies,
University of Central England, Perry Barr, Birmingham B42 2SU ? tel.
0121-331 5688; fax 0121-331 5675 or email [log in to unmask]
Any suggestions as to the possible format for such a celebration would also
be very welcome ? we only have our 21st Birthday Party in 1972 to guide us
so far!
Brian M.Hall,
Senior Lecturer,
SIS, UCE
