UKOLUG are pleased to announce that they have awarded two
student bursaries -- each of £2,500 -- this academic
year.
UKOLUG is the UK Online User Group, a professional body
and Special Interest Group of the Institute of
Information Scientists with members who are principally
concerned with the creation, supply and use of electronic
resources and in training for their efficient use. UKOLUG
believes very strongly in its responsibility as a
professional body for professional support, encouragement
and development. Thus, apart from our publications and
training meetings, we offer a series of awards and
bursaries to students and members.
Our latest awards -- one bursary to an undergraduate and
one to a postgraduate on courses closely aligned to our
interests -- were awarded to students from the
Information Management Group at Napier University
Business School and the Graduate School of Education at
the University of Bristol.
Chris Armstrong, UKOLUG Chair said, "Since I have been
on the Management Committee UKOLUG has returned a
percentage of its income to the information profession in
the form of awards. I am happy to say that with these
Bursaries, UKOLUG is offering a very real help to two of
the many students who have no other means of support and
who must rely on an ever-increasing bank loan to
complete their courses."
UKOLUG's Awards Panel chose the two students from among
the many applicants who were not in receipt of any other
grant or award as the most deserving cases for our
support.
UKOLUG expect to offer the bursaries in future years.
