Dear Colleagues,
A seminar on e-Government and the Role of Public Libraries on Thursday 9th
November 2000, will be addressed by Alan Howarth, Minister for the Arts.
The seminar will be held in central London.
There are still a few places left on the seminar which is intended for
Heads of Public Library Services and Local Authority Chief Officers.
The Modernising Government White Paper, published last year, identified
public libraries as one of the key channels for delivery of electronic
government. This seminar will give local authority decision-makers the
chance to learn about the e-Government initiative and to explore the
opportunities that public libraries provide for local delivery of services.
As well as the Arts Minister, Alan Howarth, the seminar will include the
following speakers: Ian White from the Cabinet Office; Jeremy Crump of
Cisco Systems; John Hicks, who is Chairman of the Advisory Council on
Libraries; Grace Kempster from Essex County Council; David Waltho from the
Post Office and representatives from the BBC, and Resource.
