Well,
judging for all the replies I have had about Elle's earlier
posting, it would seem many people do see it as a legitimate information
source for librarians. Could I ask why it was that a course of
censorship (telling users to continue off the list) was embarked upon in
the light of the complaints received? It seems rather against the
spirit of what information work is about really, doesn't it? Comments
about postings being dross are not very constructive either. Why is it
we feel the need to belittle things we are not sure about?
I hope Elle is pleased that she has sparked such an interesting
(albeit off list) debate. However, I am extremely concerned of the
response of the (I hope minority) and more to the point the fact that
the list owner has very quickly gone along with there views. Come on
Andrew, as information professionals I am sure we can all do better than
this. Can't we?
