*****PsycINFO*****
The JISC is pleased to announce that an agreement has been
finalised with the American Psychological Association for
PsycINFO. This deal has been negotiated by CHEST on behalf
of the JISC, and will allow access from UKHEIs and Research
Councils.
Full details are now available online at:
http://www.chest.ac.uk/datasets/psycinfo/overview.html
Institutions have a choice of accessing the data via
either an Ovid or SilverPlatter interface. (At least one
institution has chosen to take out a subscription to both.)
These interface providers were selected from a shortlist
nominated by the JIBS user group to whom we are grateful
for expert advice.
PsycINFO covers literature from 1887 to the present and
contains more than 1.5 million references to journal
articles, books, book chapters, technical reports, and
dissertations published in over 45 countries. All abstracts
are in English, but the covered literature includes
material in more than 30 languages.
PsycINFO covers literature that is relevant to psychology.
In addition to "core" psychology topics such as personality
or mental health, PsycINFO contains abstracts on
behavioural topics from related disciplines. One can
find references about health care, education, business,
organisational behaviour, consumer behaviour, criminal
justice, artificial intelligence, etc.
Trial access and subscriptions are available now. Please
see http://www.chest.ac.uk/datasets/psycinfo/overview.html
or contact Emma Thompson at CHEST for more information
(email [log in to unmask] or phone 01225 826982).
*****ZETOC*****
We are pleased to announce that ZETOC, a service developed
in partnership with the British Library and MIMAS, was
launched yesterday.
ZETOC provides access to the British Library's Electronic Table of
Contents database of over 15 million article titles derived from the
20,000 most important research journals in the world, dating back to
1993. It is updated daily with approximately 10,000 new additions.
The database includes a unique collection of over 100,000 conference
papers, indexed to title level.
ZETOC is available via a web interface at htpp://zetoc.mimas.ac.uk
and as a Z39.50 target, allowing searching via EndNote, Bookwhere
etc. - see web site for more details.
You may access the ZETOC database if you are a member of a UK Higher
or Further Education institution. (ZETOC is not
currently available to the Research Councils, but
discussions to finalise arrangements are on-going.)
The British Library are funding the development of the service
through to March 2001, and the JISC has agreed to fund the
running of the service thereafter until at least August
2003.
Free training sessions, giving an overview of ZETOC and BL's own
inside service, are currently being run at regional centres around
the country - see the ZETOC web site for details.
Note - During October, 'ZETOC Alerting' will become available -
meaning you can choose to be emailed the table of contents from as
many journals as you wish. These will be sent on the day the new data
is loaded into the database, which can be just 72 hours after
publication.
*****JSTOR*****
The JISC is pleased to announce that it is finalising an
agreement with JSTOR for access to its new General Science
Collection. This follows a positive community response to
JISC Circular C6/00 (see
http://www.jisc.ac.uk/pub00/c06_00.html). More details
will be provided in due course, but we anticipate launching
the service on January 1, 2001 and as described in the
circular.
