Trip to the Leeds Library, Commercial Street, Leeds, W. Yorks.
Thursday 28th September 2000, 4.00pm.
The Leeds Library (located in a Grade II listed building on Commercial
street, upstairs from Britannia Building Society and the Disney Store!) was
established in 1768. It is now the oldest proprietary subscription library
in the UK. It has a stock of 135,000 books, and a formidible periodicals
collection.
Although the stock now centres more on general literature and humanities,
the older collections contain many scientific, historical and philosophical
works. The readers at the library number 500 proprietary subscribers and
over 150 associated members.
If you are interested in a visit to this most interesting library, for
further details, directions etc. please e-mail Ellie Clement on

Many thanks
Ellie
