We are planning a new library at the Bedford, Polhill site of De Montfort
University. The library will have an access control system to manage
entrance to the library. At the moment users do not have to show any id
when visiting our two site libraries and in fact our libraries are very
friendly, welcoming and relatively informal. We have been discussing our
access policies with regards to different user groups in the new library and
would appreciate any in-put from other Libraries.
If you have an access control system how do you deal with the following:
Students who have forgotten to bring their cards?
Students who have lost their cards?
Academic staff who have forgotten their cards?
External visitors to the library - we recognise there are different
categories from 24 hours to longer periods of access? Do you charge
external users for reference access?
We would also be interested in finding out how the control system is
managed. Do you have security staff or is the system managed by the library
staff?
Thanks,
Linda.
