2. Context-JUSTIS products update
3. PsycINFO® update
4. RSC renewal update
5. CAS SciFinder Scholar update
6. FT Discovery - Final reminder
7. OCLC Services Unavailable
1. New Licences for EMBASE
--------------------------
New Licences for existing and new EMBASE Subscribers via BIDS are now
available on the CHEST Web site at
http://www.chest.ac.uk/datasets/embase/
Sites extending their subscriptions should download and complete 2
copies of the new licence and return to Heather Franklin at CHEST as
soon as possible. If your site has licensed NHS Affiliates would you
also complete 2 copies of the Addendum Form - also available at the same
URL.
2. Context-JUSTIS products update
---------------------------------
JUSTIS Family Law (£650pa) and JUSTIS Human Rights (£1,270) have been
added to the list of products included in the CHEST/Context Agreement.
The Licence and Addendum Form on the CHEST Web pages
<http://www.chest.ac.uk/datasets/context-justis> have been updated to
reflect this. Sites wishing to pay for subscriptions for the 4
remaining years of the Agreement for any of the products will have 10%
deducted from the total amount.
3. PsycINFO® update
-------------------
It has recently been brought to the attention of CHEST that
some of the Service Providers that were unsuccessful in the JISC
tender for PsycINFO are advising Institutions of a different
offer from APA. CHEST hopes to make a statement clarifying the
situation within the next two weeks.
Please also note that it has been announced by APA that with
effect from 1st November 2000, PsycInfo will include PsycLit and
the stand-alone PsycLit will be suspended from that date.
4. RSC renewal update
---------------------
Contrary to previous announcements CHEST has not given up trying
to make this data available to the community and is proceding
with renewal negotiations with RSC. We are currently talking to
BIDS about the possibility of running the RSC service but without
DOSE. In this case DOSE would be supplied on CD-ROM or by some
other third party source.
5. CAS SciFinder Scholar update
-------------------------------
CHEST has recently received an offer from CAS which contains
revised pricing and additional information about the future of
the product. Unfortunately we have been asked to treat this as
confidential and so are unable to advertise the details. We have
pointed out the futility of this to CAS and have asked them to be
more open with the community. Until these issues have been
resolved we are unable to provide you with any more information.
6. FT Discovery - Final reminder
--------------------------------
In addition to the messages which have been sent out recently in
the Data Messenger and via the FT Discovery mailbase list, all
licensed Institutions have now been contacted individually by
CHEST.
This is a final reminder that CHEST needs to know BEFORE 31st
August 2000 whether your Institution wishes to continue with the
new product set. If you do not contact CHEST by 31st August 2000
it will be assumed that you wish to continue with your
subscription. Emails should be addressed to Emma Thompson with
the subject line Lexis Nexis.
7. OCLC Services Unavailable
----------------------------
This reminder has been issued by OCLC:
"OCLC services to be unavailable Aug. 6-7 during power upgrade:
All OCLC online services will be unavailable from 7 a.m. (British Summer
Time), Sunday, Aug. 6, until approximately 9 a.m., Monday, Aug. 7,
during a planned power shutdown.
The 26-hour shutdown is necessary for the installation of a new power
system in the building which houses OCLC's data centre and
telecommunications facility. The ultimate goal of this upgrade is to
reduce the need for such shutdowns in the future.
We expect access to online services to be restored by 7am on Monday Aug.
7, however there is a 2 hour contingency period in the event of any
unforeseen happening.
For further information please see <http://www.oclc.org>"
