1. General Invoicing
--------------------
Any Institutions wanting invoices for payment before 31st July 2000 need
to make their requirements known to CHEST by Friday 21st July. This
particuarly applies to orders on the Biomed Service.

2. Biomed Invoicing
-------------------
CHEST and Ovid have been working to streamline Biomed invoicing. To
this end, as far as is practicable, we are aiming for each Institution
to have a single invoice date per year. In order to achieve this it
will be necessary to issue pro-rata invoices to bring all subscription
dates in line. We are aiming to bring subscriptions in line with the
main invoice date for each Institution. Your Institution will be
contacted prior to annual invoices being raised and on receipt of
additional orders.

3. MCB Emerald available under Athens
-------------------------------------
CHEST is pleased to announce that as a result of
collaboration between MCB and Athens, Emerald Intelligence
+ fulltext is now fully compliant with the Athens access
management system.

The Athens Domain Administrators at all exisiting HE Sites
licensed for Emerald have been contacted to inform them
that this resource is now available and should be made
available to end users.

The direct URL for the resource is
http://www.emerald-library.com/EMR/ and you can also access
the service via the '(info)' link on that page.

The other products available under this Agreement(Anbar,
International Civil Engineering Abstracts and Computer
Abstracts)are also planned to be available under Athens but
no timescales have been issued for these yet.

4. Free trial of CHEST/Clover Newspaper & Information Indexes
-------------------------------------------------------------
CHEST and Clover are pleased to announce a free evaluation
of the Clover Online Newspaper Index and Information Index
from the 17th July to 31st August 2000.

The procedure to gain access is as follows:

1. go to http://clover.niss.ac.uk/ (n.b. no 'www' in front)
2. click on the index you want to search (Newspaper or Information)
3. enter the following username - ch_clovertrial
4. enter the following password bothpd33
5. perform your search

Access is totally free to any library or individual.

Further details on the search techniques can be found in the site help
files or users can download a brief guide by going to:-
http://www.cloverweb.co.uk/cloverr3.htm

Please find below more detailed information provided by
Clover about these Indexes.

"The Clover on the Web services, available via NISS through
a CHEST Agreement, consists of two parts, The Newspaper
Index and the Information Index.

The Newspaper Index

Newspapers are incomparably the richest source of current information
and so, in time, also the best retrospective source. However, their
deliberate lack of formality and order in the presentation of stories
makes them hard to use retrospectively, even within a couple of days.

The Newspaper Index on the Web is a comprehensive index providing quick
access to the full range of quality daily and Sunday newspapers,
including all their supplements and magazines. Also covered are a number
of essential weekly news magazines.

The full coverage is:-
*Daily Telegraph,
*Financial Times,
*Guardian,
*Independent,
*Times,
*Observer,
*Sunday Times,
*Economist,
*Times Education Supplement,
*Times Higher Education Supplement,
*Times Literary Supplement.

The date coverage for the service is September 1986 onwards and the
Index is updated fortnightly with the data being up on the Web only 4
working days after the end of the period covered.

Most items over 4 column inches are indexed with some exceptions (mainly
regular sports fixtures) which means 200,000 items are indexed annually

Each index entry includes a subject heading (plus extra keywords where
necessary), the title of the article, the newspaper title in full, the
date and pagination. An annotation is given where the title is ambiguous
in any way. If an article is illustrated by a photo, map or chart this
is indicated within the entry

The Information Index

The Information Index, often referred to as "The Clover
Index" is a subject index to popular periodicals. By
'popular' we mean that it covers the kind of periodical
that libraries usually purchase, rather than their content
necessarily being low-level. This means periodicals like
Scientific American are indexed alongside ones like Country
Life and Good Housekeeping, but our main concern is to
produce an information tool enabling users to find articles
on a very wide range of subjects rather than concentrating
on blanket coverage of certain titles.

Overall we try to achieve wide subject coverage of articles
concerning the individual, by indexing consumer reports, practical
articles in a wide range of fields (e.g. crafts, electronics, and most
hobbies) and non-specialised accounts of human, scientific and technical
affairs. We recommend that you use it as the first information tool you
consult when dealing with subject enquiries - time and again you will
find it will prove its worth!

The data on the web is updated monthly and the date range
of the index is impressive, coverage in many cases going
back to the 1970s. A full list of the titles covered can
be seen at : http://www.cloverweb.co.uk/cloverp8.htm "

5. Beta testers for MethodsFinder
---------------------------------
MethodsFinder is currently in Alpha testing and BIOSIS is planning for
Beta testing between 31st July and 1st September.

A requirement sheet will be distributed by BIOSIS, about one week before
the Beta test begins. This will alert test participants to certain
areas BIOSIS want them to try. However, BIOSIS will not require any
written report: their intention is to gather feedback via the Web site,
while individuals are
in the process of testing the database.

An IP address and single contact name at each institution taking part in
the test will be required.

If your institution is interested in a Beta test of this product please
send a message to [log in to unmask], copied to
[log in to unmask] including your IP address and contact name of
the person wanting to take part.

6. Addition to ESDU data
------------------------
An additional service has been added to the suite of products covered by
the CHEST/ESDU Agreement. This is 'Process and Environmental
Technology' and is aimed at process and chemical engineers in both
industry and academia. This suite of data items includes data, methods,
software and training and covers the following areas:
  * process integration
  * heat exchanger technology
  * industrial water minimisation and reuse
  * crude oil fouling mitigation

Process and Environmental Technology will be automatically available to
those institutions subscribing to ESDU data. Further details of this
agreement are available at http://www.chest.ac.uk/datasets/esdu/

8. BIDS ISI Closure
-------------------
Licensed Institutions are reminded that the BIDS ISI
