Title: Information Technology Officer Grade: P.3 Official station (country):

Organizational Location/Unit: Health Information Management and Dissemination
(IMD), Library and Information Networks for Knowledge (LNK).
Objectives of the programme: To provide comprehensive library and information
services to Member States and WHO staff worldwide, including the maintenance of
a global database serving as a reference and referral centre for questions
relating to the work of WHO, and print, non-print and electronic data
collections for efficiently responding to information queries.
The incumbent will be responsible for:
- Analysing user needs for IT library services, and assisting in the planning
and implementation of IT policies, goals and objectives within a set budget
- Maintaining and developing LNK networked services, and maintaining technical
support of all library computer equipment, hardware and software on Windows
environment
- Maintaining updating and expanding the WHO Library home page; representing
LNK on the WHO Web Working Group, and providing technical support to the content
coordination function of this group
- Developing and delivering IT training and training related to library
services to WHO staff and to librarians in developing countries
- Acting as the IT liaison librarian for assisting units and/or departments in
their web site preparation and training the clients to continue their own
systems
- Participating in reference activities, including desk duties - Other duties
as required.
Qualifications Required:
Education and Skills: University degree in library and information sciences,
with emphasis on systems or IT librarianship.
Experience: Extensive relevant experience with demonstrated responsibilities for
IT Library and Information services within a large and complex organization.
Knowledge of WHO and/or the UN Library information systems at global, regional
and national levels an advantage. Proven capacity to communicate and cooperate
in a multicultural setting. Languages: Excellent knowledge of English and
French. Knowledge of other WHO official languages an asset. Annual salary (net
of tax): US$ 42 730 at single rate and US$ 45 777 with primary dependants. Post
Adjustment: 39.2% of the above figures. This percentage is to be considered as
indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due
to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
