I am posting this for a colleague not on lis-link, please reply
directly to her. We will summarize for the list if required.
Thanks
Our College is installing a firewall. Access to the Intranet resources
behind it will be for College members only. The security that users
will pass to enter the Intranet will also enable them to access
electronic journals and databases from home, whereas they are
currently only available on Campus (being IP protected).
These changes have implications for the Library and how our
resources are visible to the general public over the Internet. We
would like to keep our catalogue public but can no longer offer the
lists of electronic journals as we have done in the past (even
though members of the public could not actually access these
journals).
There must be many Higher Education Libraries in a similar
position. How have you adapted to a firewall and what IP portected
services do you allow users to access from home? or the public to
browse as lists?
Thanks in advance.
