Two posts at the Institute of Education, University of
London have been advertised

1) CIRCULATION AND SYSTEMS LIBRARIAN

The Institute of Education is looking for a graduate with
appropriate qualifications and experience to manage and
develop library circulation services within its Information
Services Department. The post will include responsibility
for all circulation activities, including access control
and inter-library loans, and additionally provide support
to the Systems Librarian in the administration of the
Unicorn Library Management System and other library
systems. You will be expected to exploit Unicorn to provide
an efficient and flexible circulation service and
investigate new systems such as self-issue. You will take a
leading role in the development of Library membership
policy and liaise with Institute staff regarding common
exploitation of staff and student data. You will have
special responsibility for systems development relating to
circulation matters and support the Systems Librarian with
overall systems administration.

You must have a recognised graduate-level qualification in
librarianship or information science or be a graduate with
appropriate computing qualifications. You should also have
two years' experience of using an automated circulation
system in an academic or other large library, which must
include experience of working with library users on a
regular basis and, substantial practical experience of the
Windows operating system, file management and database.
Experience of inter-library loans procedures is desirable
and experience of library systems administration would be
an advantage.

Salary will be on the Administrative, Library and Computing
Scale 1/2, in the range £18,420 to £20,319 or £21,049 to
£26,613 inclusive of London Allowance.

2) SENIOR LIBRARY ASSISTANT (Cataloguing)

The Information Services Department of the Institute of
Education requires an experienced cataloguer to join its
Library and Media Services cataloguing team. Duties will
include subject indexing, classification and cataloguing of
all library material using the Library's specialist
thesauri and classification schemes, and responsibility for
monitoring cataloguing throughput and for library material
processing. You will also be expected to carry out routine
administration of the Library's Unicorn management system
as part of the systems team, and to work regularly at one
of the Library's public service points.

You must have one year's practical experience of
cataloguing using AACR and MARC, indexing using a subject
thesaurus and of classifying library materials. Experience
of working with an automated library system, good keyboard
skills and familiarity with computers in a Windows
environment are also essential. Experience of working with
the public, preferably in a library context, and of working
in libraries in higher education is desirable.

Salary will be on the Clerical and Related Administrative
scale, in the range £17,798 to £20,801 inclusive of London
Allowance.
