INFORMATION OFFICER - MATERNITY LEAVE COVER

The Library and Information Services section of the Institution of
Electrical Engineers (IEE) is seeking an Information Officer to be based
at its headquarters in Savoy Place, London, WC2. The IEE represents the
public, professional and educational interests of some 140,000
electrical, electronic and manufacturing engineers worldwide. Key
activities include publishing, the organisation of conferences, the
maintenance of technical standards, interaction with government
departments, and the provision of scientific, technical and business
information services.

The main purpose of the post, which will be offered initially on a
fixed-term contract of at least 6 months, is to contribute to the
provision of a technical and commercial information service to members
and the profession. The main duties include responsibility for the
efficient running of an enquiry search service; responding to enquiries;
online database, CD-ROM and Web searching; maintaining and developing
in-house databases; marketing and promotion of the services offered; and
assisting with Library circulation and enquiry desk work. The person
appointed will also play a pivotal role in developing and sourcing
content for a new set of information services being established to
support professional competence and updating.

Candidates should be graduates with a library/information science
qualification or experience and an ability to work with technical
information. The IEE offers a 35-hour flexible working week, together
with free lunches and excellent working conditions. A no smoking policy
applies in the Savoy Place building. The salary scale for this post is
£16,275 - £19,335, dependant on experience.
