APOLOGIES FOR CROSS-POSTING
Cabinet Minister Mo Mowlam is to speak on 'Social Inclusion: Government policy and the role that public libraries can play' at a major conference being held at the Library Association on Monday 10 July.
The conference, 'Open to all? Libraries and Social Exclusion', is aimed at public library policy makers, practitioners and all with an interest in addressing social exclusion.
It follows eighteen months' research into the role of the public library in tackling social exclusion. The research, funded by the Library and Information Commission, is based at Leeds Metropolitan University and is a partnership with the London Borough of Merton, Sheffield City Libraries and John Vincent, an independent consultant. The conference is the first chance to hear the findings of the project.
Other speakers will include Library Association Chief Executive Bob McKee and Kevin Harris, Head of Information at the Community Development Foundation.
Full details of the conference programme are available on the project's web page at http://www.lmu.ac.uk/ies/dmudd/lib_conf.htm
There is bound to be great interest in the conference and the project team recommend booking a place as soon as possible!
