To anyone out there who might still be struggling to install the Guardian & Observer on CD ROM onto a Windows 98 machine with a PS2 mouse, those nice people at Chadwyck Healey have come up with a solution.
>From the Start button, go to Programs, then Accessories, then System Tools, then select System Information.
When the application opens, go to the Tools menu and select System Configuration Utility.
Click on the Startup tab, and then cancel the check box which relates to the PS2 mouse (in our case, POINTER).
You will then have to restart the machine, but the Guardian software should then install without any problem.
Chadwyck Healey have said that they're going to put all this on their FAQ section of their website, for future reference.
Thanks to all who replied to my initial query.
