Does your library require users to log-on individually in order to use
electronic information sources such as networked CD Roms, electronic
journals or your institutional web site? If so, I would be interested
to hear your experiences. How do you administer access? Do users
have difficulty getting in? Do you get complaints from users without
the right registration?
I am particularly interested to hear from you:
* if you have a large number of important external users - such as NHS
users in a University medical school
* if you are a converged service with responsibility for registration
as well as support
* if you have separate categories of computers for different functions
(eg. OPAC only; networked information resources only; general
purpose computing- including word-processing, email etc.)
We are about to embark on a policy of mandatory logging on for our
computers, and we are in the process of deciding where to draw the
boundary between publicly accessible resources and those which will
require authentication.
Your help is appreciated.
