Dear Colleagues
In word-final Consonant Clusters in French, there are no
lexical items ending with Nasal Vowel + /s/ + Plosive. I'm
wondering whether this is accidental or not: to me,
hypothetical words like 'ponste' or 'dinsque' don't seem
quite *as* unacceptable as more clear-cut cases where a
Nasal Vowel is ruled out, like *'anrme' or *'onlte'.
Do you know of any 'native' French proper nouns that end in
Nasal Vowel + /s/ + Plosive (i.e. like one of the French
pronunciations of the Polish toponym 'Gdansk')?
(Of course there are cases such as 'monstre', but they are
different.)
Many thanks
Aidan
