Dear Colleagues
I'd like to draw to your attention a book that might just
have escaped your notice, as it has not had the publicity
associated with a big publisher:
'From French to Creole', by Chris Corne, 1999, University
of Westminster Press, 251 pages plus index, price £20
It is a unique survey of French-related 'contact
vernaculars' (including Tayo of Nouvelle Caledonie), and
must rate as one of the most valuable resources on French
creoles and pidgins.
As announced in the last issue of JFLS, Chris Corne
tragically died in a car accident last year.
The book is the fifth volume in the Westminster Creolistics
Series, edited by Philip Baker.
