Hi all,
We are looking at creating a web based managed learning
environment for our student population of about 5,000.
We are starting from scratch and hope to integrate information from
our student records and other systems to generate a page for each
module with bulletin boards, module outlines, links to content,
assessment, staff lists etc. etc. We hope to pilot something in
about a years time.
We have not decided on an operating system or software and our
main constraint will be staff time - only one member of staff has
been allowed for this!
We have looked at various products, WebCT, Topclass, etc - none
have proved easy enough for the average busy lecturer to use for
entering content without extensive training, hand holding, more
training.....
Also integration with other systems looks to be a problem.
The Enterprise Edition of Blackboard CourseInfo looks good but
costs above our budget.
A home grown solution using active server pages or possibly Zope
looks promising but I am worried about creating a monster.
Is anyone else in a similar situation to me and does anyone have
any answers?
Regards
David Mosford
