Dear Colleagues
I expect you will have seen announcements about the Learning and
Teaching Support Network through your various 'parent disciplines' (at least,
I hope so!) Briefly,
"The UK higher education funding bodies have established a new Learning and Teaching Support
Network (LTSN) to promote high quality learning and teaching in all subject disciplines in higher education
(HE). The network will support the sharing of innovation and good practices in learning and teaching
including the use, where appropriate, of communications and information technology (C&IT)".
(From the LTSN website:
http://www.ltsn.ac.uk/main/about.html
One of these 24 Centres is the Centre for Education in the Built
Environment, which we are running from Cardiff University (City & Regional
Planning and Architecture jointly, with inputs from Leeds Metropolitan
University as well).
I have responsibility as Director for Planning, Housing and Transport. Given
my personal 'Transport' interests, I am anxious to ensure we offer a full
service to Transport colleagues. We have defined our respective
'constituencies' (at least in the 'professional education' areas) by seeking to
support those Departments and courses which run programmes recognised
by the relevant professional institutions. Thus I would like to see us (CEBE)
giving a full service to 'Institute of Logistics and Transport' (formerly CIT)
recognised courses. (All courses which are 'Engineering Institution
recognised' will be supported by the LTSN Engineering Centre - see
http://www.ltsneng.ac.uk/
though there is extensive co-operation on content between us, for obvious
reasons).
First, please take a look at our web site:
http://cebe.cf.ac.uk/
You will find more specifically Transport matters under:
http://cebe.cf.ac.uk/resources/index.html?urlindex.html#Planning
Second,
If you are aware of anything which you think should be there from a
Transport perspective, please email us to let us know, on
[log in to unmask]
so that we can add it.
Third (and most challenging!) we would be pleased to hear how YOU feel we
might assist you and other Transport educators. This includes organising
visits and workshops, as well as providing web services and a regular
newsletter.
Finally, there is an element of funding available for supporting innovative
projects in the Learning and Teaching area, and we would be pleased to
discuss any ideas you might have for joint development, with a view to
progressing matters further.
The object of this email is to ensure that everyone in the 'Transport'
constituency is aware of what we are and what we can offer.
If you are already on one of our contact lists, apologies for bothering you.
If not, and you would like to be added, again please email us at:

I would be happy to talk personally to anyone who wishes to follow up any
points - contact details below.
Yours sincerely
Chris Yewlett
