3 Short Courses at Leeds & London
1. INTRODUCTION TO SATURN
19-21 September 2000
This course has been set up at short notice to accommodate the excess
demand for the Introductory course of 5-7 September. The course has
been developed in conjunction with experienced practitioners from the
Greater Manchester Transportation Unit. It covers the theoretical
principles underlying the model; the mechanics of network building,
running the programs and analysing outputs; the issues of calibration
and validation; and presents evidence from real life studies. A
significant proportion of the time available will be devoted to
practical exercises incorporating hands-on experience of the latest
SATURN software, 10.1, running on a cluster of NT machines.
2. TRANSPORT POLICY FORMULATION
18-20 October 2000
This course will give participants an in depth understanding of the
issues surrounding current transport policy at national and local
level, and practical experience of the development of an integrated
transport policy working in groups using the Institute's computer
model, PLUTO. The course is led by Professors Chris Nash and Tony
May; participants may attend for just Day 1 (national) or days 2 and
3 (local) if they wish.
3. STATED PREFERENCE
2-3 November 2000
This course is offered in conjunction with the University of
Westminster and will be held at their Marylebone Campus. It covers
the essential principles involved in the use of SP techniques to
examine choice behaviour. It is focused on practical applications and
a number of problem solving exercises are conducted. The course
covers the principles of demand analysis, design, survey issues,
analysis and interpretation, and application. The four practical
examples involve the design of SP experiments using different
procedures, testing these designs using logit models applied to
synthetic data, and estimating joint RP-SP models. The course will be
led by Dr Mark Wardman, Dr Jeremy Toner and Professor Peter Jones.
