UNIVERSITY RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS PROGRAMME

The University places high value on its status as a Research
University and, in order to enhance research quality and assist in the
development of a research culture, has established a University
Research Fellowships Programme aimed at attracting dynamic and
promising researchers on the threshold of an outstanding academic
career. This is the fourth year of recruitment to the Programme, with
28 appointments having been made in earlier years. Six faculties
participate in the scheme. Some have selected specific fields of
study for this year's programme; others invite applications from
across the field of research interests.
If you have established a track record of high quality research and
are interested in a career in academia you are invited to apply for a
University of Leeds Research Fellowship (available from October 2000)
from among the following areas:
URF/00/1 Biological Sciences: - Biomedical Sciences, Biochemistry and
Immunology
URF/00/2 Psychology: - The Biological or Cognitive Aspects of
Neurophsychology/Neuroscience
URF/00/3 Medicine: - The Role of DNA Repair in Cancer Susceptibility
URF/00/4 Medicine: - Application of Cell and Molecular Biology
Techniques to Problems of Relevance in Clinical Medicine
URF/00/5 Engineering: - New, Emerging and Multidisciplinary Areas to
Meet the Research Challenges of the New Millennium
URF/00/6 Education: - Geographic Information Systems in Education
URF/00/7 Business School: - Innovation, Risk and Strategic Decision
Making
URF/00/8 Geography/Transport Studies: - Transport, Sustainability and
Land Use
URF/00/9 Chemistry: - Theoretical Chemistry (Molecular/Reaction
Dynamics)
University Research Fellowships:
· are normally offered on Research Grade II (£22,579- £30,065), but
may be more senior for particularly outstanding applicants;
· will concentrate on research for three to five years, normally
leading to a permanent academic appointment;
· are exempted from teaching and administrative duties in the early
stages.
· may be supported by development grants of up to £30,000
Appointees will have an excellent record of research achievement and
will be expected to make a significant contribution to the research
profile of their department and the University. Full support for
career development will be provided.
