Dear all
Further to Michael Kenwood's message about replying to psci-com messages,
let me clarify the situation as it now stands. The psci-com list is set so
that - if you click the reply button on your e-mail software - replies go to
the sender of the original message. To reply to the list you need to click
the "reply to all" button.
If psci-com were set up so that replies go automatically to the whole list
(when you click your "reply" button), then auto-replies would also go to
everyone, not just to the sender of the message. According to Mailbase
there is no way of preventing auto-replies from going to the originator of
the message, but, at least with the current set-up, no-one else receives
them.
If list members feel that it would facilitate discussion to change the
set-up on psci-com so that, by clicking the "reply" button, you
automatically reply to the list, I will make these changes. As I've already
said, this change may mean that there are a lot more auto-replies bouncing
around. Please let me know what you think.
Lastly, just to remind everyone that the easiest way to prevent auto-replies
is for each list member to suspend their name from the list when away. To
do this send a message to [log in to unmask] with the following
command:
suspend mail psci-com
To start receiving messages again, send the command:
resume mail psci-com
(Incidentally, if you belong to more than one list you can send the message:
suspend mail ALL. When you return: resume mail ALL).
