Two positions for doctoral students (BAT II a/2) are available
in the Cluster Dynamics Group of Prof. Buck at the Max-Planck-Institut
fuer Stroemungsforschung in Goettigen, Germany. One project is
focused on the vibrational spectroscopy of pure and doped
water and ammonia clusters. The clusters are size selected
and the tunable laser system (OPO) is operated in the infrared.
We look for structural changes and electron transfer as function
of the cluster size. In the other project, a single molecule
is photodissociated in different cluster environments. Here,
the kinetic energy of the outgoing fragment atoms gives information
on the dynamics of caging. The different laser frequencies
for the dissociation and detection are generated by non-linear
mixing processes. Typical examples are molecules of evironmental
importance interacting with water clusters.
The Max-Planck-Institut provides an excellent research evironment
with well equipped laboratories. Our work is supported
by the DFG and we cooperate closely with theoretical groups in
Israel and the USA on the interpretation of the data.
The candidates should have strong experimental skills and work
well with others. Experience with pulsed lasers or vaccuum machines
and mass spectrometers is a plus. For more detailed information
see our Web pages:
