Phil
I too know very little about mining tokens, but I do know there is
information about them in:
Dalton and Hamer, "The Provincial Token-Coinage of the 18th Century', 1910,
but reprinted in at least 1967 and maybe later, contains four pages on the
Cronebane (Avoca, Ireland) mining tokens which may be of interest.
Also mining tokens are just one example of trade tokens info on which can be
found in:
Trade Tokens issued in the 17th Century by BOYNE. Originally edited by
Williamson (in 2 volumes 1889 to 1891), but also reprinted in three volumes
about 1970. It is commonly referred to as WILLIAMSON'S.
This info comes from correspondence, some personal and some on the mining
history list, back in August 1999. I have not tried to trace either of the
books referred to, but I'm sure they should be of interest to you Phil.
